The Walworth County Clerk of Courts Office is now issuing marriage licenses for same-sex couples.

Be aware that the State has not yet updated the application; one registers as the bride, one as the groom.  The only purpose of this is to place one of the two names first.  Updated forms will be forthcoming.

If you are currently in a domestic partnership and wish to get married, there is still some question about the partnership...whether it needs to be dissolved first or automatically ends with marriage.  We'll try to find out ASAP.

When applying for a license, both individuals must go in and have
  • Certified Birth Certificates
  • Proof of Addresses
  • If in a previous marriage certified documents of divorce (6 mo. waiting period) or death.
  • Social Security Numbers (cards not needed)
  • Name of who's performing ceremony (clergy member, judge, etc)
  • $80 cash (no checks or credit cards) for fee

There is a 5 day waiting period once filed.  Applicants can pick up the license or for $2 it can be mailed (presumably to the "groom")
