This comes from the book, The Transgender Child: A Handbook for Families and Professionals by Stephanie A Brill and Rachel Pepper who got it from the Family Acceptance Project. While written for parents of transgender and gender variant children it is applicable to parents of any LGBTQ child.
I start here, and from wherever I am, and from this day forward, I will:
>Speak positively about my to them and to others about them
>Take an active stand against discrimination
>Make positive comments about gender diversity
>Work with schools and other institutions to make these places safer for gender variant, transgender, and all children
>Find gender variant friends and create our own community
>Express admiration for my child's identity and expression, whatever direction that may take
>Volunteer for LGBT organizations to learn more and to further the understanding of others.
>Believe my child can have a happy future
