Below is a sample position paragraph that might be used in developing a non-discrimination policy to protect transgenders.

Safe Schools for Transgender Students

The National Association of School Psychologists supports efforts to ensure that schools are safe environments for transgender students, family members, and staff. NASP acknowledges that gender transition is necessary for the well-being of some transgender youth and adults and that efforts to change gender identity are ineffective and may cause harm. NASP supports efforts to ensure equal access to educational opportunity for transgender students. NASP supports practices that do not discriminate on the basis of gender, gender identity, or gender expression in the provision of employment, health care services, and other benefits.
